About Fish the West

Fish the West was born from a simple idea and a chance meeting in Kernville, California. Filmmakers Devan Homis and Chandler Jenkins, both multi–Emmy-nominated and Emmy-winning documentary storytellers, walked into Guy Jeans’ fly shop on the banks of the Kern River. Guy, a renowned guide, shop owner, and lifelong advocate for the Kern River fishery, had built a reputation as both an exceptional angler and a pillar of his local community.

 

Initially, the plan was straightforward: produce a short documentary capturing Guy’s life on the water, his work as a guide, and his role in shaping the fishing culture of his home waters. But once the cameras started rolling, something bigger took hold. Days on the river turned into late-night conversations about fishing, filmmaking, and the culture that connects anglers across miles of water and generations of experience.

 

We realized there was a larger story to tell, one that could reach beyond a single river or a single guide. Together, we envisioned Fish the West, a cinematic series that follows Guy Jeans as he travels to meet other passionate anglers, each with their own unique approach, philosophy, and impact on the sport. From guides carving out a living in remote fisheries to innovators developing new techniques or protecting access for future generations, each episode invites viewers into the world of someone who has dedicated their life to fly fishing.

 

Behind the lens, Devan and Chandler bring decades of filmmaking experience, a shared love for storytelling, and the obsessive curiosity of anglers who can’t stop thinking about the next cast. In front of the camera, Guy brings authenticity, expertise, and a rare ability to connect with people both on and off the water. Together, we are not just documenting fishing trips, we are preserving the stories, personalities, and moments that define the craft.

 

We are passionate anglers and filmmakers telling the stories of the thing we love most: fly fishing. Fish the West is entirely self-funded and fueled by crowd support, allowing us to create without the influence of corporate sponsorships. Every view, donation, and piece of merchandise sold helps keep the journey alive so we can keep bringing you along for the ride.
